چکیده

Fractal curves were generated on square initiators and rated in terms of complexity by eight viewers. The stimuli differed in fractional dimension, recursion, and number of segments in their generators. Across six stimulus sets, recursion accounted for most of the variance in complexity judgments, but among stimuli with the most recursive depth, fractal dimension was a respectable predictor. Six variables from previous psychophysical literature known to effect complexity judgments were compared with these fractal variables: symmetry, moments of spatial distribution, angular variance, number of sides, PVA, and Leeuwenberg codes. The latter three provided reliable predictive value and were highly correlated with recursive depth, fractal dimension, and number of segments in the generator, respectively. Thus, the measures from the previous literature and those of fractal parameters provide equal predictive value in judgments of these stimuli.

Comparison Density and Fractal Dimension of Drainage Networks in Different Scales and Precision Different (Case Study: Ilam Watersheds)

Every phenomena in the nature, despite the complexity of the subject, has certain rules and regulations. River pattern and behavior as one of the most complex natural phenomena to this is not an exception. Depending on geomorphologic, climatic, topographic and erosive conditions, the waterways exhibit different patterns and behaviors. One of the parameters which can be achieved using the comple...

Brain complexity increases during the manic episode of bipolar mood disorder type I

Fractal dimension of the electroencephalographic (EEG) signal has been argued to reflect the complexity of the underlying brain processes. To this date, conventional studies of EEG in mood disorders have not been able to distinguish between patients and normal individuals. Here we show that, compared to normal subjects, EEG fractal dimension is significantly augmented in the manic episode of bi...

Self-similar fractals and arithmetic dynamics

‎The concept of self-similarity on subsets of algebraic varieties‎ ‎is defined by considering algebraic endomorphisms of the variety‎ ‎as `similarity' maps‎. ‎Self-similar fractals are subsets of algebraic varieties‎ ‎which can be written as a finite and disjoint union of‎ ‎`similar' copies‎. ‎Fractals provide a framework in which‎, ‎one can‎ ‎unite some results and conjectures in Diophantine g...

Fractal dimensions of the sagittal (interparietal) sutures in humans.

Traditional studies of the cranial suture morphology have focused mostly on visual estimation and linear measurements, and thus on evaluating their complexity. This paper presents a new look on cranial sutures as curves, which can be analysed by fractal dimension. This new measure seems to be a much better method of expressing properties of sutural patterns than traditional methods. Our finding...
